      No biographers mention this highly significant painting of Alma _ Tadema. The declaration . This oil was completed toward June of 1856 in time for the Levende Meesters exhibition in Maastricht. The small The declaration was a sixteenth century costume high-life subject prefiguring his later 'boy proposes to girl' Classical anecdotal themes.
