      Many of the work Turner produced, were inspired by this region, exploring in some detail his response to particular places - Antwerp:Van Goyen Looking Out For a Subject. The Antwerp also provided Turner with a chance to explore qualities of light and colour, something which was of professional concern to him in the 1810s. In this respect, Turner's painting of harbours can be seen as being part of his artistic development, as he begins to use colour to move from a naturalistic to a more 'poetic' response to landscape.
