      Gerome arrived on the scene about 1840. Delaroche influenced Gerome's style. He advocated the use of Academic training shaped by the influence of David’s Neo Classical style... During this very important period Gerome was to formulate a manor that was based on the mastery of minute detail interdispersed with the desired elements of historical accuracy. King Candaules is a fine example of Gerome's mastery.
